# Updating

How you hear about updates and how to install them without losing your settings.

## How you know an update is out

Every script checks for a newer version when it starts and prints the result in the server console:

```
[alt0-mdt] Up to date (v1.0.1)
```

When one is out, the console shows the new version and what changed. The same notes are posted in **#changelogs** on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/6fJwccaJqW). Press **Follow** on that channel to get them in your own server.

To turn the check off, set the script's version check to `false` in its config (`Config.VersionCheck`, or `VersionCheck` / `versionCheck` depending on the script).

## Installing an update

1. Download the new version from **portal.cfx.re → Assets → Granted Assets**.
2. Back up your config files (each script's configuration page lists them).
3. Replace the script folder with the new one.
4. Put your config files back, then compare them with the new ones for added options. The changelog lists them.
5. Restart the resource or the server.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Replace the whole folder, not single files, then restore your configs. Mixing files from two versions can break the script.
{% endhint %}

Scripts update their own database tables when a new version starts, so you don't import the SQL file again unless the changelog says so.
